“No PDP Member Should Endorse Tinubu for 2027” — Party Warns, Threatens Sanctions
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to its members against endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, vowing to impose stiff sanctions on those found engaging in such activities. In a statement released on Friday, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) expressed concern over what it described as “anti-party activities” by certain members, particularly those publicly supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate.
The NWC condemned persistent public declarations of support for Mr Tinubu, warning that these actions, along with media attacks on the PDP, violate Section 10(6) of the party’s constitution, which forbids members from aligning with other parties in ways that undermine the PDP or its elected governments. The statement noted that such conduct threatens the party’s stability, fuels division, and could severely damage its electoral prospects if left unchecked.
Labeling the endorsements as a “serious threat” to party unity, the PDP issued a strong reprimand to those involved and urged them to “retrace their steps” or face disciplinary measures in line with the constitution. The NWC also called on members to remain loyal and committed to strengthening the party ahead of its national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.
