“No Faith Is Under Siege in Nigeria” — Tinubu Rejects Genocide Claims

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed allegations of religious genocide in Nigeria, insisting that no community or faith is under attack.

Speaking in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Tuesday, Tinubu said Nigeria remains united by its cultural and religious diversity, 65 years after independence. He stressed that churches, mosques, and traditional shrines coexist as “symbols of unity, not rivalry.”

“Let me say this clearly: Nigeria is a proud, sovereign nation built on the faith and resilience of its people. Here, no faith is under siege, no community is excluded,” Tinubu declared. “We must never allow outsiders to tell us who we are or sow division among us. We are Nigerians, and we will stand together.”

The president made the remarks while attending the launch of a book authored by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to mark a decade of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in power. He also commissioned several projects, including the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road, the Assumpta twin flyover, and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Convention Centre.

Tinubu credited the APC with changing Nigeria’s course since 2015, acknowledging both achievements and challenges along the way. “APC may not be perfect, but we are purposeful. And we will not allow Nigeria to return to the wasted years of drift,” he said.

Reaffirming his Renewed Hope Agenda, the president assured the South-East of full inclusion in national development. “The South-East is not on the margins; you are at the centre of our national rebirth,” he noted.

Governor Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, praised Tinubu’s policies, saying increased federal allocations have enabled states to deliver more infrastructure projects.

The event was attended by top APC leaders, former Senate Presidents Ahmad Lawan and Anyim Pius Anyim, as well as traditional rulers, religious leaders, diplomats, and members of civil society.
