Nigerian Troops Thwart Alleged IPOB Militants’ Attack in Anambra, Scores Killed
In a recent engagement in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigerian troops clashed with alleged armed fighters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The confrontation resulted in the death of one soldier and critical injuries to two others.
According to a statement released by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the armed fighters launched a surprise attack on the troops who were engaged in internal security operations in the town. The assailants, wielding AK-47 rifles and traveling in two Lexus vehicles and motorbikes, initiated the assault, prompting a swift and decisive response from the troops.
The troops managed to repel the attack, neutralizing an unconfirmed number of the assailants, while others fled the scene with gunshot wounds. Traces of blood along their escape route indicated the effectiveness of the troops’ response.
The statement expressed regret over the loss of one soldier who “paid the ultimate price in the line of duty,” while the injured soldiers are currently receiving medical attention. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, vowing to confront any threats to peace and stability in the region.
The bravery and dedication exhibited by the troops in the face of danger serve as a testament to their unwavering commitment to protecting the people and communities they serve.
