Nigerian Supreme Islamic Council Sets Wednesday for Eid-El-Fitr Celebration
In an official announcement today, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the day for the celebration of Eid-El-Fitr across Nigeria. This decision comes following the absence of any reports confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal on Monday, marking the end of Ramadan.
The leader of the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, in conjunction with the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs and the National Moon Sighting Committee, stated that no sightings of the new moon of Shawwal were reported anywhere in the country on Monday, the 29th day of Ramadan 1444AH.
As a result, Muslim worshippers are advised to continue fasting on Tuesday, with the Eid celebration slated for Wednesday. The Sultan emphasized the importance of prayer for peace, progress, and development in the country, extending warm wishes to the Nigerian Muslim Ummah for a blessed Eid-El-Fitr.
In his statement, the Sultan urged all Muslims to continue their religious deeds and offered prayers for Allah’s acceptance.
