Nigerian Student Dies a Week After Arriving in the UK for Studies
A 39-year-old Nigerian man, Oluwatobiloba Oyagunna, has died just seven days after moving to the United Kingdom to pursue a Master’s degree.
Oyagunna passed away suddenly on February 2, 2026. He is survived by his wife and two children.
According to Oluomo of Derby, founder of the Nigerians in UK Community, Oyagunna arrived in the UK on January 26, 2026, to begin a Master’s in Business and Computing. The statement described him as “a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man full of hope and plans for the future.”
The community has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist his family with funeral expenses. The appeal emphasizes the family’s urgent need for support and calls for donations and sharing of the fundraiser to ensure Oyagunna receives a dignified burial.
