Nigerian Police on High Alert in Abuja Following Threats of Bandits’ Invasion
In response to potential threats of a bandits’ invasion, the Nigerian police have heightened security measures across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This comes after alarming messages circulated on WhatsApp, warning of an imminent attack led by Ardo, a sub-commander of the notorious bandit leader Boderi Yellow mai One Million. The messages claimed the bandits were moving from Kweri Forest in Kaduna State towards the Gauraka/Kubwa Hills area in the FCT.
Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Benneth Igweh, confirmed the deployment of officers and resources to strategic areas in Abuja based on these intelligence reports. The broadcast messages on WhatsApp detailed the movement of bandits and highlighted the escape of an 18-year-old captive, Inusa Lawal, who provided crucial information about the group’s activities.
Lawal’s account revealed that the bandits, holding ten hostages, had left their camp for the FCT, intensifying concerns about their intentions. The messages suggested the bandits were desperate for funds, particularly in light of the upcoming Sallah celebration, and might target areas like Kubwa, Zuba, and Mpape.
The security alert prompted agencies to bolster patrols, especially around the Bwari area council. Residents were urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
In a statement, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh reassured the public, emphasizing that necessary measures were in place to safeguard the area. She encouraged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, assuring them of the police’s commitment to maintaining security and preventing any potential attacks in the capital.
