Nigerian Police Arrest Suspect for Defrauding Thai Woman of $216,000
The Lagos Police Command has announced the arrest of a man accused of defrauding a Thai national of $216,000.
In a statement on X, the Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that Chimereze Chinedu, the suspect, was apprehended on May 10 in Enugu State. The arrest followed a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) with technical assistance from INTERPOL.
Chinedu is alleged to have deceived the victim by promising to sell her 37 tricycles. To further his fraudulent scheme, he forged documents from the SCID, claiming the tricycles were seized by the police, and extorted an additional thirty million naira from the victim to supposedly secure their release.
Hundeyin confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the crime. He emphasized the police command’s dedication to combating internet fraud and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
