17-Year-Old’s Newborn Buried Alive by Grandmother, Corpse Found
In a shocking incident in the Ogombo area of Ajah, Lagos State, the grandmother of a 17-year-old girl, identified only as Favour, has been accused of burying her daughter’s newborn baby alive. The disturbing event has left the community in shock and disbelief.
According to Punch Metro, the tragedy began when the grandmother discovered Favour’s pregnancy. Angered and determined to conceal the pregnancy from the public, she went to great lengths to keep it hidden. Neighbors, however, began to suspect the teenager was pregnant and alerted the grandmother, who vehemently denied their claims.
In a video posted by Peace Ighodaro on X.com, the teenager, when questioned by neighbors, revealed she had given birth alone and immediately informed her mother. Favour stated, “I was the one that called my mother after I gave birth. When I gave birth, I did not know what was going on.”
Ighodaro alleged that the grandmother took the baby and later claimed it did not survive, despite offers from people willing to adopt the newborn. In her post, Ighodaro recounted how the grandmother, after initially denying the pregnancy, admitted the truth following persistent questioning.
A witness, who spoke anonymously for fear of retaliation, recounted seeing the grandmother bury the baby alive in the backyard. By the time he intervened and dug up the grave, the baby had already died.
Confirming the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said, “The grandma has been arrested. Investigation revealed that she buried the baby alive, and the baby had died when neighbors dug the grave to rescue it. The mother of the baby, who is 17 years old, is in our custody for care and not as a suspect.”
