Nigerian Musician Sanij-D Arrested for Defrauding British and American Victims
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Aniji Shedrack Chidubem, popularly known as Sanij-D, a Nigerian artist, on charges of defrauding a British citizen, Susan Mclean, of £9,300, and an American, Diana Rosado Gonzalax, of $2,000. This arrest follows a crackdown on a cybercrime syndicate operating in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Chidubem, who allegedly assumed the identity of Christopher Rossi, a supposed marine engineer working on boats and pipelines in Singapore, used various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, along with foreign phone numbers to deceive and defraud his unsuspecting victims.
The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that the agency acted on credible intelligence to apprehend the suspect. Investigations into this fraudulent operation are ongoing, and once they are concluded, Chidubem will face charges in court.
This case highlights the continued vigilance and efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime and protect individuals from falling victim to online fraud.
