Nigerian Man Arrested in US, Faces Deportation Over Alleged Sex Offences
A 53-year-old Nigerian national, Olatunde Olusanjo, has been arrested in Los Angeles by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is facing deportation proceedings over alleged sexual offences.
According to ICE, Olusanjo was taken into custody on April 21 by its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) unit and remains detained pending removal proceedings.
In a statement posted by the agency’s Los Angeles office, ICE said Olusanjo had prior arrests linked to child molestation, sexual battery and solicitation of lewd conduct. The agency also described him as a convicted sex offender.
“Los Angeles ERO arrested Olatunde Abiodun Olusanjo, 53, of Nigeria, Apr. 21,” the statement said, adding that he is currently in ICE custody pending deportation.
The arrest comes amid ongoing enforcement actions by US authorities targeting non-citizens with criminal records.
In February, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the arrest of 79 Nigerians accused of serious crimes, including sexual assault, fraud, manslaughter, cocaine smuggling, kidnapping and robbery.
US authorities have in recent years intensified scrutiny of foreign nationals linked to criminal allegations, with Nigerians among those prosecuted in cases ranging from cybercrime to violent and sex-related offences.
