Nigerian Engineer Anthony Okafor’s Solar-Powered ‘Keke’ Attracts American Partnership for Mass Production

Enugu-based auto engineer, Anthony Okafor, renowned for unveiling a solar-powered tricycle in just 21 days back in 2020, has caught the attention of Sustainable Communities Corporation (SCC), a non-profit organization based in Ohio, USA. This collaboration aims to mass-produce solar-powered tricycles, including quadracycles, under the newly formed entity Nrg Corporation.

In an exclusive interview, Okafor expressed his excitement about the partnership, envisioning a boost to Nigeria’s transportation system and a lift for operators from the poverty index. The partnership includes the establishment of NrG Company, pronounced ‘energy,’ and plans for modifications, such as quadracycles and electric bikes, alongside mass production.

SCC, through its subsidiary WinBat company, will not only provide financial support but also deploy hemp battery technology, making the solar-electric tricycles competitive with conventional gasoline tricycles. This strategic collaboration comes after four years of persistent efforts by Okafor and his team.

Jeff Greene, spokesperson for SCC/winBat, hailed the partnership as a “Nigerian Success Story,” emphasizing the plan to establish NrG Company for producing batteries and other energy-related products. The subsidiary will have full rights to deploy WinBat’s new environmentally friendly battery technologies in Nigeria and throughout Africa.

The partnership is set to fast-track Okafor’s dream of mass-producing solar-powered vehicles, providing sustainable solutions and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
