Nigerian Cyclist Gets a Helping Hand, Borrows Bicycle from German Team After Last-Minute Olympic Entry
In a remarkable act of sportsmanship at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Nigerian cyclist Ese Lovina Ukpeseraye received a helping hand from the German cycling team after finding herself without a bicycle for her events.
Ukpeseraye, who represents Team Nigeria, was thrust into the keirin and sprint events with little notice. Unfortunately, the short turnaround left her without the essential equipment needed to compete.
Taking to her X account on Thursday, Ukpeseraye explained, “Due to the short notice of me competing at the keirin & Sprint, #teamNigeria I had no bicycle to race with on the tracks.”
In a heartwarming turn of events, the German cycling team, Bund Deutscher Radfahrer, stepped in to lend Ukpeseraye a bicycle, enabling her to compete.
“In d spirit of sportsmanship the German team @bunddeutscherradfahr came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle. Thank you,” Ukpeseraye shared.
