Ese Brume on the Verge of History as Nigerian Trio Qualify for Long Jump Final at Paris 2024 Olympics

In an impressive feat, Nigerian athletes Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Oluchi Ochonogor have secured their spots in the women’s Long Jump final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

 

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Ese Brume clinched her place in the final with a leap of 6.76m, while Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor earned their qualifications with jumps of 6.68m and 6.65m, respectively.

 

Brume, who holds titles as the Nigerian, African, and Commonwealth long jump champion, is on a quest to become the first Nigerian track and field athlete to win two individual Olympic medals. She has consistently performed well in international competitions and aims to continue her medal streak in Paris.

 

Debutants Usoro and Ochonogor are also set to make their mark in the final, which will take place at the Stade de France.

 

Nigeria has a storied history in the Women’s Long Jump event at the Olympics. Chioma Ajunwa won gold at the Atlanta 1996 Games, followed by Blessing Okagbare’s silver at the Beijing 2008 Games. Brume added a bronze to Nigeria’s medal tally at the Tokyo Games, and now she seeks to elevate her legacy with another podium finish in Paris.
