Nigerian-Born Soldier Makes History in U.S. Army Leadership

 

 

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Eragbai E. Evborokhai has achieved a historic milestone as the first Nigerian-born soldier to lead a U.S. Army infantry regiment. His appointment marks a significant moment in military history, highlighting his exceptional leadership and dedication.

 

Beyond this achievement, Evborokhai holds the prestigious position of the most senior non-commissioned officer (NCO) in the U.S. Army. In this role, he is responsible for addressing the concerns of soldiers across all ranks, ensuring effective communication between enlisted personnel and senior leadership.

 

Born in Nigeria, Evborokhai began his military journey in 2001 after enlisting in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and has since served in multiple leadership roles, including Rifleman, Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, and Operations Sergeant Major. His career has taken him across various Army divisions, with assignments in Hawaii, Germany, Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado. He currently serves as the Command Sergeant Major of the 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment “Manchu” at Fort Carson, Colorado.

 

Evborokhai’s military education is extensive, including the Warrior Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, and the prestigious Sergeants Major Academy. He has also trained internationally in Malaysia and Australia. Academically, he holds degrees in Homeland Security and Workforce and Leadership Development.

 

His service has earned him numerous military awards, including two Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, the Valorous Unit Award, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He is also a distinguished member of the Order of Saint Maurice.
