The Nigerian Army bid farewell to 29 distinguished Infantry Generals in a solemn ceremony held yesterday at the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State. Among the retirees were 19 Major-Generals and 10 Brigadiers-General, marking the end of their illustrious military careers.

Maj.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, representing the retirees, addressed the gathering, urging their successors to uphold and surpass the achievements made in strategic, operational, and tactical endeavors. Emphasizing the evolving challenges facing the nation’s security, Ezugwu called for proactive measures and the adoption of modern technology to stay ahead of adversaries.

He advocated for enhancements in night fighting capabilities, frontline intelligence gathering, and basic field crafts training. Additionally, Ezugwu announced a donation of books and funds to promote training, reading culture, mentorship, and capacity development among officers and soldiers.

Expressing gratitude for their decades of service, Ezugwu described retirement as a mix of emotions, from nostalgia to fulfillment. He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, and Maj.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Commander Infantry Corps, for organizing the memorable event.
