Nigerian Army Reacts to Rumoured Planned Coup Against Tinubu Government
In response to circulating speculations suggesting a potential coup against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Nigerian Army has categorically dismissed the rumors as “fake news.”
Contrary to reports circulating on Sunday, claiming heightened security measures by the presidential guards due to coup suspicions, the Army, through its official X page, branded the allegations as “FAKE NEWS.” The reports had indicated increased vigilance over key brigades, with Col. Adebisi Onasanya, the Commander of the Presidential Guards Brigade, reportedly holding meetings with Tinubu and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Tensions in Nigeria have escalated amid the current economic challenges, surging inflation, and the high cost of living following President Tinubu’s recent decisions, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.
Last week, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, issued a stern warning against any calls for a coup, urging people to refrain from such actions. Read more
