Nigeria Voices Deep Concern Over Israeli Airstrike on Qatar
Nigeria has expressed deep concern over the recent Israeli airstrike in Qatar that struck a residential neighborhood in Doha. The attack reportedly targeted high-ranking Hamas officials believed to be sheltering in the Qatari capital.
In a statement issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government described the incident as a violation of international law and a troubling development with potential to destabilize the Middle East. Although Abuja stopped short of directly condemning Israel, it emphasized that the strike disregarded the sovereignty of a fellow nation and risked escalating an already fragile situation.
The statement highlighted Nigeria’s long-standing position on the importance of respecting territorial integrity and adhering to global norms governing the use of force across borders. According to the ministry, such unilateral actions not only endanger civilian lives but also undermine international efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
Nigeria also underscored the critical role Qatar has historically played as a mediator in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. It warned that attacks on Qatari soil could jeopardize ongoing diplomatic efforts and make dialogue more difficult. The government urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further provocations, and return to the path of negotiation.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and security, Nigeria assured that it would continue to work with the international community through platforms such as the United Nations and other multilateral organizations to promote dialogue and uphold the rule of law. The government stressed that maintaining respect for sovereignty and pursuing diplomatic solutions remain the only viable ways to address the conflict and prevent further instability in the Middle East.
