Nigeria Tops Belgium’s Prostitution Statistics, Belgians Express Concern over Nigerians Sleeping in Extreme Cold

The Belgium government has declared Nigeria to have the highest number of prostitutes in the country, shedding light on the plight of Nigerian migrants, including sex workers, sleeping in harsh weather conditions.

Mr. Freddy Roosemont, Director General of the Office of Foreigners in Belgium, made this startling statement during a press briefing in Abuja over the weekend. He urged Nigerian youths to resist the allure of dangerous journeys to Europe, commonly known as JAPA, and cautioned them against falling victim to human traffickers promising lucrative opportunities.

Roosemont emphasized the unrealistic nature of the dream to migrate to Europe, particularly Belgium, citing the perilous journey and the challenges faced by migrants upon arrival. He implored the media to play a crucial role in educating the youth about the harsh realities of such endeavors.

Highlighting the global economic downturn, Roosemont dispelled the myth of an easy life in Europe, stating that survival without stable employment is exceedingly difficult. He revealed that the number of asylum seekers in Belgium has surged to 150, urging prospective migrants to abandon their aspirations as the golden fleece in Europe is nothing more than a mirage.

The official cautioned against seeking asylum in Belgium, citing a low chance of obtaining a resident permit. He disclosed that, due to legal obligations, the reception of asylum seekers is limited to vulnerable groups, primarily families and women with children, leaving many single men stranded on the streets of Brussels.

Roosemont painted a grim picture of the current situation in Brussels, with numerous asylum seekers enduring freezing temperatures without adequate assistance. He acknowledged the legal obligation to provide support but lamented the overwhelming demand and limited resources, leaving many struggling to survive on the streets.

As Belgium grapples with the challenges posed by an influx of migrants, the plea from authorities is clear: dissuade Nigerian youths from embarking on perilous journeys, as the reality in Europe may not align with their dreams.
