“Nigeria Must Demand a Thorough Investigation and Explanation from the US” – Shehu Sani on ‘Foreign Object’ Hitting Shettima’s Plane
Former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has called on the Nigerian government to seek a thorough investigation and explanation from the United States regarding an incident involving Vice President Kashim Shettima’s plane at JFK Airport in New York.
According to a statement released by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga, the VP’s aircraft was struck by a “foreign object,” resulting in the cancellation of Shettima’s planned attendance at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Samoa.
In a post on his official X account on Friday, Sani emphasized the seriousness of the incident, stating, “The incident at JFK Airport in New York, where a ‘foreign object’ was reported to have hit and damaged the cockpit window of the VP Shettima’s plane, must be treated seriously.” He underscored the need for Nigeria to demand a comprehensive inquiry from the US, noting the unprecedented nature of such an occurrence at one of the world’s most secure airports.
Sani also expressed gratitude for the safety of Vice President Shettima and the crew involved in the incident, saying, “We thank the Almighty for the life of the VP and other crew and staff.”
