Newly Constructed Anambra Market Road Dissolves in Rain’s Wrath Within a Week: Governor Soludo Faces Backlash

Ochanja Market, nestled in the heart of the Woliwo community within the Onitsha South local government area of Anambra State, has become the focal point of scrutiny following a recent calamity.

Just one week after its completion, the newly constructed Ochanja Market Road, overseen by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, succumbed to the forces of nature during an afternoon downpour.

A viral video circulating on social media captured the harrowing aftermath of the deluge. The once pristine asphalt, meticulously laid down by construction crews, now lay in disarray, with fragments strewn about and certain sections submerged beneath pools of rainwater.

Expressing a mixture of astonishment and dismay, local residents voiced their apprehensions regarding the quality of infrastructure projects undertaken by Governor Soludo’s government. Despite substantial investments from taxpayer funds, concerns over substandard workmanship persist.

Questions abound as to how a mere twenty-minute rainfall event could trigger such extensive damage to a road constructed a mere week prior. Doubts linger over the durability and resilience of other ongoing government projects, especially as the rainy season approaches in June.

Accompanying the viral video, social media posts echoed sentiments of disillusionment, with one user lamenting the swift deterioration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s touted “Dubai-Taiwan” development initiatives. The collapse of a government-contracted storey building at the same Ochanja Market site mere weeks earlier, resulting in tragic fatalities, further exacerbated public skepticism.

As the public clamors for accountability, the Anambra State Government has yet to issue a formal response regarding the circumstances leading to the road’s collapse. With public confidence wavering, Governor Soludo’s administration faces mounting pressure to address concerns regarding infrastructure integrity and taxpayer stewardship.
