Nigerian music star Afeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has made a high-profile return to his homeland, Nigeria, with a pledge to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in the ongoing investigation surrounding the tragic demise of his former protege, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.
Naira Marley, a controversial figure in the Nigerian music industry, announced his return through a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing his commitment to the investigative process. In his tweet, he stated, “I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria, to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation. It’s important I do my part for Imole. I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail.”
The death of Mohbad on September 12, 2023, had stirred a considerable amount of controversy, with allegations of assault involving Naira Marley and his entourage emerging in the aftermath. However, the artist vehemently denied any involvement in the tragic incident.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, Naira Marley addressed the allegations, stating, “Permit me to categorically state that I have no hand in the death of Ilerioluwa, either directly or indirectly. It is not unusual in the industry, just like in several other industries, to have family friction, even amongst blood relatives.”
Naira Marley went on to explain that while he and Mohbad had their share of disagreements while working together, the situation was never as dire as portrayed by some parties. He emphasized that the disputes were being resolved through legal means before the unfortunate passing of Mohbad.
The controversial musician, who had been out of the country since August 31, 2023, is now making arrangements to return to Nigeria to assist with the ongoing police investigation. He affirmed his full cooperation with the authorities and expressed his intention to clarify his position regarding the events leading up to Mohbad’s tragic death.
