“My Son Almost Butchered Me with a Machete After My Wife Incited Him,” Husband Tells Court
The Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned a divorce case until November 5, following alarming accusations in a suit filed by a man named Isiaka against his wife, Adijat. The husband claims that his wife incited their son to threaten him with a machete.
In a dramatic hearing, Isiaka alleged that one of their children approached him with a machete, intending to harm him, following a series of provocations by Adijat. He recounted how the situation at home became intolerable, leading him to move out of the house he built.
“My wife ridiculed me in front of our children, turning me into a laughing stock,” Isiaka testified. “I had no choice but to leave the home I built with my hard-earned money. Despite this, she continued to come to my shop to fight me and incite our children against me. One of them even came to my house with a cutlass, intending to butcher me. I had to flee for my life.”
Adijat, in her defense, pleaded with the court to dismiss the divorce suit, expressing remorse for her actions. “Please, help me beg my husband,” she pleaded. “I am sorry for my shortcomings. He cannot divorce me after we’ve had five children together.”
She explained that their son’s actions were a response to his father’s alleged rough handling of her during a confrontation. “Our child was angry after learning about his father’s behavior and went to scare him with the cutlass, but he never intended to kill him,” she said.
After hearing both sides, the presiding judge, Akintayo, adjourned the case until November 5, when a judgment is expected to be delivered.
