“My Eyes and Throat Hurt” – Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Alleges Police Fired Teargas on Abuja Protesters
Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel to the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has accused police of using teargas to disperse protesters in the nation’s capital on Monday.
Ejimakor, who was present at the #MNKOct20 demonstration, said police fired teargas into the air while a large crowd had gathered in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel. He reported experiencing irritation in his eyes and throat as a result.
“I’m in front of Transcorp Hilton with a mammoth crowd that gathered for #MNKOct20 and the police just exploded teargas. My eyes and throat hurt. They’re scattering everywhere,” Ejimakor wrote on X.
According to reports, protesters had assembled to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021. The rally was part of renewed calls by his supporters urging the Federal Government to comply with previous court rulings ordering Kanu’s release.
