Multiple Vigilante Operatives Killed at Anambra Nightclub; Police Recover Bodies
The Anambra State Police Command has officially confirmed the brutal killing of local vigilante operatives at the Porsche nightclub in Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area. The incident unfolded on Sunday night, sending shockwaves through the community.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police command, revealed to journalists in Awka on Monday that the police were alerted to the situation, responding promptly. However, the assailants had already fled the scene by the time law enforcement arrived.
Ikenga stated, “Yes, the incident happened. Our men were alerted, and they quickly moved to the scene of the incident, but the gunmen had already fled. Our men have recovered the bodies of the vigilante operatives who were fatally wounded, while others sustained various degrees of injury. We have also fully deployed our men to Oba, and the operation is ongoing. So far, no arrest has been made.”
The town of Oba, situated near Onitsha, has been experiencing a rise in criminal activities, with Porsche Nightclub becoming a recent target. This incident follows a previous kidnapping case where a popular native doctor, Akwa Okuko, was abducted from his hotel and later released after a ransom payment.
Sources in Oba report a grim toll from the Sunday night attack, with seven individuals confirmed dead at Porsche Nightclub. Shockingly, one of the security operatives was beheaded, and another had his foot severed, carried away by the assailants. The town now grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event as investigations continue.
