MultiChoice Announces Substantial Price Hike for DStv, GOtv Subscriptions in Nigeria
Multichoice, a leading Pay TV company, has declared an upcoming increase in subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages in Nigeria. This move follows a previous price adjustment that had been implemented not too long ago.
In an internal memo, the company confirmed that these new rates would come into effect starting November 6, 2023.
According to the memo, the premium package on DStv will see a significant increase, rising from N24,500 to N29,500. The Compact Plus package, previously priced at N16,600, will now be available for N19,800, and the Compact package will experience an increase to N12,500 from its previous rate of N10,500.
Confam subscribers will now have to pay N7,400 instead of the former N6,200, and Yanga subscribers will see their rates rise to N4,200 from N3,500. The DStv Padi package will also undergo an increase, going from N2,500 to N2,950. In addition, the company has adjusted the fees for its HDPVR Access Service, Access Fees, and Xtraview bouquets, which will now be priced at N4,000, up from N3,400.
Similarly, GOtv subscribers will also experience an increase in rates. The Supa Plus package will now be offered at N12,500, up from N10,500, while the Supa package will cost N7,600, in contrast to the previous N6,400. The Max package is set to rise to N5,700 from N4,850, and GOtv Jolli subscribers will now pay N3,950, up from the earlier rate of N3,300.
Furthermore, the GOtv Jinja and GOtv Smallie packages will be subject to an increase, with their rates adjusting from N2,250 to N2,700 and from N1,100 to N1,300, respectively.
Multichoice has attributed this significant price hike to the escalating cost of business operations. In a statement, the company acknowledged the potential impact this decision may have on its customers and partners, but emphasized its commitment to providing high-quality content and outstanding service to its valued customer base.
“On Monday, November 6, 2023, we will adjust our prices across all our packages on DStv and GOtv. We understand the impact this change may have on our valued customers and partners, but the rise in the cost of business operations has led us to make this difficult decision. It remains our mission to provide the best entertainment and viewing experience to our valued customers and are committed to continuing to deliver high-quality content and unparalleled service to our customers,” the statement read.
Multichoice’s decision to increase subscription prices has sparked discussions and concerns among its subscribers in Nigeria, who will soon have to accommodate these higher costs for access to their favorite television content.
