Moses, Iheanacho show class as Super Eagles beat Pharaohs of Egypt
The Super Eagles of Nigeria outclassed the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in the opening match of Group D at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon on Tuesday.
The only goal of the encounter was scored by Kelechi Iheanacho in the 30th minute after an assist by Joseph Aribo off a fantastic move by Moses Simon.
Moses was a torn in the flesh of the Egyptian defense as he constantly ran at Egyptian defender Akram Tawfik who was replaced by Abdelmoneim they both had no answers to his mesmerizing moves on the left flank.
The Pharaohs of Egypt who had their attack led by Liverpool’s Mohammed Sallah found it difficult to break down the Super Eagles defence that had Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi on duty.
The Super Eagles midfield was also well marshalled by the duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Joseph Aribo.
The goalkeeper Maduka Okoye had little or nothing to do during the game except in the 71st minute when he made a smart save after Salah had beaten an offside trap by the Nigerian defense.
By this victory the Super Eagles of Nigeria tops Group D after the other match between Sudan and Guinea-Bissau ended goaless.
Kelechi Iheanacho was awarded the most valuable player of the game.
The Eagles will face Sudan on Saturday in their second group match.
