“Mokwa Flood, An Act of God” — IBB
Former Nigerian Military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has described the recent flood in Mokwa, which claimed nearly 200 lives, as a tragic and unfortunate act of God. Speaking for the first time about the disaster, Babangida urged the people of Niger State to use the Eid-El-Kabir period to pray for the souls of those who perished and for the protection of those affected by the flood.
While receiving a state government delegation led by Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba at his residence in Minna, Babangida expressed his condolences to the people of Mokwa and the entire state. He acknowledged that the flood was beyond human control and emphasized the need for continued prayers during this difficult time. He also commended Governor Umaru Bago’s administration for its developmental efforts and pledged his ongoing support.
Deputy Governor Garba, who visited Babangida to seek his blessings and advice, acknowledged the general’s concern over the disaster. He called on everyone to unite in prayer and praised Babangida’s longstanding service to Nigeria, assuring him of the state government’s commitment to supporting him as a respected national figure.
In a separate statement, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago appealed to residents to maintain their prayers for peace, progress, and development in Niger State and across the country.
