JUST IN: IBB’s Son Declines Appointment as BoA Chairman
Mohammed Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, has declined his appointment as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA), citing personal and professional reasons.
In a letter dated July 21, 2025, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Babangida expressed his gratitude for the nomination, describing it as a privilege to be considered for a position critical to Nigeria’s agricultural and economic development. However, he stated that after careful reflection and consultation, he decided to turn down the offer.
“This decision was not made lightly,” Babangida wrote. “It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands.”
Despite declining the role, he reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu’s administration and its national development agenda. Babangida said he remains committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria and is willing to contribute in other capacities where his expertise may be useful.
His decision comes as the federal government continues to place increased emphasis on revitalizing the agricultural sector as part of its broader economic diversification strategy. The Bank of Agriculture plays a crucial role in supporting agribusiness and driving rural development across the country.
