Mentally Unstable Boy Fatally Stabs Civil Defence Officer in Ondo
A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer has died after being stabbed by a boy described by residents as having a long-term mental health condition in Ondo State. Police in Akure said the incident occurred on Thursday at Oke-Ala in Oba-Ile, Akure North.
According to the Ondo Police Command spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the officer was attacked while attempting to help restrain the boy and later died in the hospital from his injuries. Witnesses said the boy’s mother had sought assistance from two NSCDC personnel after he began acting violently at home. During the effort to restrain him, the boy reportedly overpowered one of the officers, took a knife from him and inflicted multiple stab wounds.
Residents said the boy had struggled with mental health challenges for years. The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed the loss of the officer, describing the development as tragic. The incident follows a similar case reported days earlier in Lagos, where a man with mental health issues killed a soldier.
