Medical Officer Offers Ex-Girlfriend Two Goats as Compensation for Dumping Her, Case Heads to Traditional Court
Bindura District Medical Officer, Dr. Tonderai Chiwawa, has sparked widespread social media debate after allegedly offering two goats as compensation to his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Karen Tandanguni, following their breakup.
Karen, 25, has since taken the matter to a traditional court, accusing the married doctor of reneging on promises made during their relationship, which began in November 2022. According to Karen, Dr. Chiwawa assured her of marriage and introduced her to some of his relatives. However, she claims some family members warned her about his history of multiple marriages and children.
After their breakup, Karen rejected the two goats offered as compensation, deeming it an insult. She further alleges that Dr. Chiwawa pressured her to terminate the pregnancy and threatened her when she refused. “I also fear for my life because he said he is prepared to harm me if I keep the child,” she stated.
Karen has reported these claims to Bindura Police Station and has also filed a theft complaint after her phone, containing what she describes as incriminating messages, was stolen. The case will be heard before Chief Masembura on January 19.
Dr. Chiwawa, however, has denied the allegations, asserting that Karen is attempting to damage his reputation. “I know the girl from around, and I don’t care whatever she says. You can write all the information she tells you. She just wants to tarnish my image,” he said.
