Alaafin Stool: How Some of My Supporters Abandoned Me Over Money – Oyo Prince
Prince Ayobami Ladigbolu, a former contender for the Alaafin of Oyo throne, has shared his reflections on the challenges he faced during the race for the coveted crown. In a statement posted on Facebook, the prince congratulated the new Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owoade, describing his ascension as divinely ordained.
The prince expressed disappointment over the betrayal of some of his supporters, citing financial challenges as the reason they abandoned him for other candidates. Reflecting on the experience, Ladigbolu stated, “I learned the value of money in one’s life from the race for the crown of Alaafinate. Due to financial constraints, some of the people who initially supported me switched allegiance to another candidate. Those I had supported in the past did not reciprocate when I needed their help. However, I bear no grudge and have taken away valuable lessons for the future.”
Despite the setbacks, the prince extended his gratitude to the Agbonhin Sanda Oridota family, the Ladigbolu section of the Agunloye royal lineage, and others who supported his candidacy. He also acknowledged the camaraderie shared with fellow contestants, particularly Prince Kolade Tunde Sanni Oladigbolu and Prince Muideen Adekunle Oladigbolu, whom he described as “blood brothers.”
Prince Ladigbolu congratulated the newly crowned Alaafin, saying, “I congratulate Oba Alaafin Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the new Alaafin of Oyo. He was chosen by God almighty. The entire Ladigbolu family rejoices with him. Kaabiesi!”
He called on the people of Oyo to unite behind the new monarch, urging them to set aside any lingering controversies from the selection process. “Contests for kingship are not without a few disputes. We should manage the controversy and support the new king to build a viable Oyo and Yorubaland of our dreams,” he concluded.
