MC Oluomo Elected as New National President of NURTW

In a decisive moment for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos Chapter’s former chairman, Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya—popularly known as MC Oluomo—was elected as the National President on Saturday. The election took place at the NURTW Zonal Secretariat along Osogbo/Ikirun road, with delegates from four southwestern states: Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti.

Mr. Akinsanya ran unopposed in the election, which was part of the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference, an event attended by union delegates from across the region. The election process was overseen by acting National President Aliyu Issa-Ore, who emphasized the importance of adhering to the Union’s Constitution, which grants a designated zone the authority to nominate the national president.

Addressing attendees, Issa-Ore, represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the Union’s National Headquarters in Abuja, praised the Southwest Zone for their adherence to the constitutional process. He remarked, “The Southwest zone has fully complied with the Constitution in electing Oluomo as President.”

Other leadership positions were filled during the conference, including Tajudeen Agbede, who was elected as Vice President of the Southwest zone, and Akeem Adeosun, chosen as the Zone’s Trustee.

Upon taking office, Akinsanya expressed a commitment to unity within the Union. Surrounded by friends and family, he addressed his fellow members, calling for reconciliation and emphasizing the need for peace. “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well,” Akinsanya said.

He added a firm pledge to safeguard the Union’s future, stating, “This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
