“Maybe God Can Bring a Good Person My Way”: Woman Who has Been Married 12 Times Opens Up About Her Journey and Hope for Love

Cynthia Achieng Abok, a Nairobi-based mother of three, says she remains hopeful about finding love—despite enduring 12 failed marriages.

In a candid interview with Citizen Digital, Cynthia Achieng Abok shared her life story, revealing how a troubled childhood and a desperate search for stability led her into a series of short-lived marriages. Born and raised in Kisumu, Abok moved to Nairobi in search of a better life but found herself trapped in a cycle of unfulfilled promises and heartbreak.

Abok said her first marriage took place when she was still a minor. “Life was difficult. My parents separated early, and I didn’t have a stable home. I moved out hoping marriage would offer a better future,” she recalled.

The separation of her parents marked the beginning of a turbulent journey. After failed attempts to live with both her mother and father, Abok said she turned to men who seemed to offer support—but often had ulterior motives.

“Most were married men. They’d rent me a house and hide me from their families. They promised to take me to school and help me, but it was all lies,” she said. “Being young, naive, and desperate, I always found myself in the hands of selfish men who didn’t really care about me.”

One of the more unusual relationships she recounted was with a 77-year-old pastor who fathered one of her children. “He took me to a different location away from his family and only visited during the day. He never kept his promises and sometimes abused me,” she said. “Eventually, his wife found out and I was kicked out.”

Over the years, Abok turned to odd jobs and substance use in an attempt to cope with the trauma. Despite her struggles, she continues to believe in the possibility of love.

“Maybe God can bring a good person my way,” she said. “I’m not ready right now, but I haven’t closed the door on love.”

Her story, though marked by pain and disappointment, is one of resilience—and a testament to the enduring hope for a brighter tomorrow.
