Massacre in Imo: Gunmen Brutally Kill 10 During Village Meeting in Umuchoke Okwe

In a shocking and brutal attack, gunmen killed ten residents on Saturday evening in the Umuchoke Okwe community, located in the Onuimo Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State.

Witnesses reported that the attack occurred during a village meeting, which was allegedly held in preparation for the upcoming councillorship election. The assailants opened fire indiscriminately upon arriving at the scene.

“It is true. Unknown gunmen attacked Umuchoke Okwe today and killed over 10 people. They stormed a meeting involving the president-general of the community and some community heads and shot everyone,” a resident informed SK Blog.

Reports indicate uncertainty about whether the president-general of the community was among the victims. Eyewitnesses suggest he may have been inside his house fetching kolanut for his guests when the gunmen struck.

Umuchoke Okwe is notably the hometown of Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the tragic event, expressing the command’s sorrow and promising a thorough investigation. “This is very unfortunate. The command is saddened by this tragic incident. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the miscreants responsible for this dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law,” Okoye stated.
