“Many Weapons Used by Terrorists, Bandits Originally Belonged to Government” – Nuhu Ribadu
In a recent statement, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that a substantial number of illicit weapons in circulation across Nigeria were once in the possession of the Federal Government. Ribadu made this assertion on Thursday during an arms destruction exercise organized by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja.
According to the NSA, many of these weapons found their way into the hands of terrorists, bandits, and other non-state actors through corrupt elements within Nigeria’s security agencies. Ribadu expressed his strong condemnation of security personnel who contribute to the illegal distribution of arms, exacerbating the country’s security challenges.
He reassured the public that the government is committed to taking all necessary measures to strengthen the nation’s security and curb the proliferation of illegal arms.
