Man Who Accused Commissioner of Sleeping with Wife Rejects Sharia Court Judgment

Nasiru Buba, the man who accused Jigawa Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, of having an illicit affair with his wife, has rejected the verdict of the Kano Upper Shari’a Court, which cleared the politician of any wrongdoing. The court dismissed the adultery case against Sankara, stating that the evidence presented was insufficient to support the claim.

Presiding judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola, in his ruling, explained that the case was struck out due to a lack of evidence, citing a police investigation that found no proof of an affair between Sankara and Buba’s wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu. The judge further noted that since Buba and his legal team were absent during the proceedings, he had no choice but to accept the findings of the investigation and dismiss the case.

However, Buba, speaking to journalists in Kano, expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision. He claimed to have provided hundreds of pieces of evidence to support his allegations, including 854 pictures, over 100 video clips, 200 WhatsApp voice notes, and more than 500 hours of call records. He insisted that despite the court’s ruling, these materials proved the truth in his case. “If the court cleared them, they are not cleared in the eyes of God and the eyes of people who know the truth about the situation,” Buba said, leaving the ultimate judgment to Allah.

Buba’s lawyer, Rabi’u Sidi, also expressed frustration, stating that they were not informed about the court’s sitting on Monday, which prevented them from attending the proceedings. He emphasized the importance of their participation in the case and revealed that the legal team would meet to determine their next course of action.

The case had earlier attracted public attention when the Kano State Hisbah Board apprehended Sankara with a married woman at an uncompleted building on August 17, 2024. Sankara denied the allegations.
