Man Takes Own Life After Attempting to Kill Daughter

A middle-aged man, identified as Segun, has died by suicide after attempting to harm his daughter in Ise Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

According to sources, Segun tried to slit the throat of his elder daughter before hanging himself from a tree behind their home in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Residents who witnessed the scene expressed shock and concern. Mr. Patrick Abayomi, a local resident, said, “People were alerted by noise from the house. When they arrived, they saw the man’s body hanging from a tree.”

The girl, reportedly 12 years old, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is responding to treatment. Neighbors said efforts were being made to safely remove the body with assistance from traditional practitioners.

An anonymous source described the man’s actions as alarming and noted the importance of the girl’s survival. “We thank God she escaped. Our hope now is for her full recovery from both the physical injury and the trauma,” the source said.

The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident. Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu stated that Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo has directed a thorough investigation into the matter.
