Man Strips Naked to Protest Hardship in Lagos
In a dramatic display of protest against economic hardship, an unnamed man stripped naked in Lagos on Thursday, joining a wave of demonstrations sweeping across Nigeria.
A viral video on social media shows the man walking naked through the streets of Ojota, singing “Solidarity forever” alongside other protesters. This act highlights the intensity of public frustration as citizens nationwide participate in the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protests, which began on August 1, 2024.
Protests have erupted across the country as Nigerians voice their grievances over the prevailing economic conditions.
SK Blog observed that despite a court order confining protesters to specific areas, demonstrators in Lagos took to the streets, roads, and Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park to express their dissatisfaction.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, assured the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining safety and security. In a statement on X.com, he confirmed the peaceful nature of the protests and reassured non-protesting residents of their safety.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has visited the protest ground at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, and met the protesters being peaceful,” Hundeyin wrote. “He equally checked Alausa, Lekki toll gate, and other parts of the state and found them peaceful too. Non-protesting Lagosians have also been going about their lawful duties without harassment or intimidation. Monitoring is ongoing. Your safety and security remain our priority.”
