Man Stabs Newlywed Wife to Death, Sets House Ablaze in Lagos
A tragic domestic dispute turned fatal in Lagos State, as a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death before setting their home on fire. The incident occurred on Friday, October 4, at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
According to a statement released by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the couple had engaged in a heated argument that escalated into violence. During the altercation, Olaniyi reportedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife multiple times, locked her in the room, and set the house on fire. He also inflicted injuries on himself following the attack.
Police officers from Ikorodu Division responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene, where they successfully extinguished the fire. Upon inspection, they discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with stab wounds in her abdomen.
“The suspect, Motunrayo Olaniyi, was found with self-inflicted injuries. He was rescued, treated at a nearby hospital, and subsequently taken into police custody,” SP Hundeyin confirmed.
Olajumoke’s body has been taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, while investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing.
