Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Woman in Kogi Over Rejected Marriage Proposal
A disturbing incident has shaken the Olla Community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, where a man identified as Yayu Musa has been arrested by the Kogi State Police Command for the alleged murder of a 50-year-old woman, Atayi Abdul.
The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Friday, July 25, around 8:00 p.m. According to police sources, Musa lured the victim to her farm under the false pretense that thieves were stealing palm fruits. Once at the location, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, resulting in her death.
Officers responded swiftly, securing the crime scene and collecting evidence, including photographs. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident and remains detained as investigations continue.
A source close to the family, Lawal Abdulazeez Muhammed, revealed that the attack may have been motivated by a personal grudge. Musa was reportedly angered after the deceased refused to allow him marry her daughter.
In line with local religious and cultural practices, the family declined an autopsy and chose to proceed with immediate burial. To maintain peace in the community amidst growing tension, joint security patrol teams have been deployed.
The police have assured that a full investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
