Man Arrested for Allegedly Hacking 71-Year-Old Mother to Death

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Alexander Ben Peter, for allegedly killing his 71-year-old mother, Mrs. Atiny Ben Peter, with a machete.
The crime reportedly occurred in Ikot Inyang village, located in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was apprehended on June 10, 2025.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, on Thursday, June 19, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the arrest. He stated that investigations are currently underway to determine the motive and circumstances surrounding the brutal act.
“The suspect used a machete to hack his mother to death in a gruesome incident that has shocked the local community,” CP Azare said. “The Command is committed to uncovering the root cause of the crime and ensuring justice is served.”
The Commissioner also revealed that within the past six weeks, the command arrested 54 suspects in connection with various criminal offenses and recovered over 50 firearms and rounds of ammunition.
