Libya: Nigerian Arrested for Killing Fellow Migrant with Hammer
Libyan police have arrested a Nigerian migrant in connection with the murder of a fellow Nigerian national following a violent altercation. The incident occurred in the southern city of Sabha, where an argument between the two escalated into a fatal attack.
According to local reports and a statement from Migrant Rescue Watch, the suspect allegedly struck the victim with a hammer, inflicting severe head injuries. The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after the assault.
Migrant Rescue Watch, a prominent organization monitoring migrant situations, confirmed the arrest on social media, stating, “Police in Sabha arrested a Nigerian migrant on charges of murder. The victim (also Nigerian) was assaulted with a hammer during an altercation, suffering head injuries that led to his death.”
The suspect is currently in police custody and has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings. This incident adds to the growing concerns over the safety and welfare of migrants in Libya, many of whom face dangerous conditions while in transit.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
