Leaked Phone Conversation of Senator Ekwunife Circulated by Soludo’s Aides Backfires, Damages Governor’s Image
By Arthur Maduka
A leaked phone conversation allegedly featuring Senator Uche Ekwunife has become the latest weapon in the ongoing feud between her and Governor Charles Soludo. The audio, which was circulated by Soludo’s media aides, was apparently intended to discredit the senator, but it appears to have backfired, with many listeners saying it has only dragged the governor and his family deeper into controversy.
In the conversation, Senator Ekwunife was heard expressing frustration over the personal attacks she has suffered from Soludo’s camp. She said she has had enough and is prepared to fight back. She went on to accuse the governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo, of having worked with the late Governor Chinweoke Mbadinuju and described her as a “man-woman” (hermaphrodite). Ekwunife also threatened to reveal more damaging details about those who, according to her, have been spreading lies against her.
Rather than painting the senator in a bad light, the release of the audio has triggered sympathy for her and renewed criticism of Governor Soludo’s team. Many observers believe the governor’s aides shot themselves in the foot by circulating a tape that opens up new questions about his family instead of silencing his rival.
Media consultant Chief Uche Nworah was among those who faulted the move, describing it as poor public relations strategy. According to him, the audio has done nothing to damage Senator Ekwunife’s reputation and has only further soiled the political climate in Anambra.
As reactions continue to pour in, calls are growing for Anambra elders to step in and end the escalating mudslinging. With the 2025 gubernatorial election drawing closer, analysts warn that the state risks reducing its politics to name-calling and character assassination instead of focusing on real issues that matter to the people.
