Lagos: Three-Storey Building Collapses Amidst Heavy Rainfall
A three-storey building under construction at No 1 Isalegangan Street by Ita-faji, Lagos Island Local Government, collapsed during the early morning hours, leaving residents in a state of panic.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties in the aftermath of the collapse, which occurred around 10:15 am during a heavy downpour. Eyewitnesses recount that the structure caved in, triggering a chaotic scene as residents scrambled for safety.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident. He reassured the public that no injuries were recorded, as emergency response teams promptly intervened to secure lives and property.
As of 6 pm, LASEMA officials were actively engaged in removing debris from the site. Ongoing investigations aim to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the collapse. Oke-Osanyitolu emphasized that appropriate sanctions would be applied if any party is found responsible for the incident.
The heavy rainfall, a significant factor contributing to the collapse, also wreaked havoc on the city’s transportation system, causing traffic gridlock throughout the Lagos metropolis due to flooding on highways.
