Lagos State Government Takes Decisive Action: Crushes Over 1,500 Seized Okada in Traffic Law Crackdown
In a resolute move to enforce state traffic laws, the Lagos State Government embarked on the destruction of 1,500 impounded motorcycles, colloquially known as “Okada,” at the Crush Plant, Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Monday.
Led by Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and Permanent Secretary Mr. Wale Musa, the Ministry of Transportation spearheaded the operation, emphasizing its commitment to zero tolerance for illegal activities.
Osiyemi, addressing the media, revealed that the crushing of over 1,500 motorcycles, seized over the past six months, aligns with the government’s unwavering stance on curbing violations of traffic laws.
The commissioner urged Okada riders to explore alternative modes of transportation provided by the government, citing plans to introduce more First and Last Mile buses into the metropolis.
“I urge the riders to stay off the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will be sustained. There is no going back; it’s a government policy, and the government does not compromise on its decisions,” stated Osiyemi.
The Ministry of Transportation’s decisive action underscores its determination to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and promote safer modes of transportation in Lagos.
