“Lagos Remains Home for Every Nigerian, Ignore ‘Igbo Must Go’ Protest” – Governor Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has strongly condemned a recent social media post calling for Igbo people to leave Lagos and the Southwest region of Nigeria. The Governor’s response came through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile.
The statement addressed a post by LagosPedia on X (formerly Twitter) which announced a planned “#IgboMustGo” protest from August 20th to 30th, 2024. Governor Sanwo-Olu denounced the message as reckless and divisive, emphasizing that Lagos is a home for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic background.
Sanwo-Olu warned that such rhetoric aims to create discord between the Yoruba and other ethnic groups, particularly those who have settled in Lagos. He urged residents to disregard the provocative post and called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the message and take appropriate action.
The Governor reassured Lagosians of his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the state.
