Lagos PDP Chairman carpets LASG over welfare of healthcare workers

The State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Engr Adedeji Doherty has taken a swipe again at the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu over the poor and discouraging remuneration structure being used to pay the COVID 19 frontline workers especially the doctors, nurses and lab technicians.

Doherty, in a recent interview with Journalists said: “It is disappointing and discouraging to see frontline workers who work round the clock and put their lives at stake during these terrible times being rewarded with remuneration that is far from fair.”

He said it was quite sad but not surprising that the APC led state government can be so inhumane and inconsiderate towards the plight of these health workers.

He however, advised the state government on the need to get its act together as regards working out a decent pay structure including hazard allowances for health workers during this unusual period in the life our dear Country.

Doherty further advised on the need for the adequate provision of PPE’s, Test kits and other essential materials needed for ease of care at these times.

He chided the Lagos state government, stating that these are yet not periods for back slapping as there are still lots more issues that need urgent attention at these pandemic times, these include:

  • The poor conditions at some Isolation centres.
  • Inability of some Isolation centres to conduct and complete tests.
  • The need to consider alternative medicine in the search for a cure for the virus.
  • Overcrowded morgues.
  • Prompt release of test results, amongst other issues.

Finally he charged Governor Sanwo Olu to revisit the 2020 Budget and make necessary adjustments especially to those areas of the budget that relates to Health, Education, security, Food Security and Debt Management especially at this time when it is quite obvious that another wave of Economic recession looms over the country.
