Lagos Government Discovers Second Illegal Settlement Under Osborne Bridge
Just a day after authorities uncovered 86 rooms and a container used for illegal activities beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Lagos, another discovery has been made at the Osborne Bridge, Ikoyi.
The Dolphin Estate Bridge structure had been partitioned into 86 rooms, measuring between 10×10 and 12×10 feet, and was occupied by illegal tenants before being dismantled by the Lagos State government.
The latest discovery at Osborne Bridge was made by the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), known for its anti-indiscipline initiatives. The revelation was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account. Wahab confirmed that the illegal occupants had been removed by the state enforcement team.
He added, “The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has taken action to clear the area of illegal settlers.”
Notably, it was revealed that tenants under the Dolphin Estate Bridge had been paying annual rents of N250,000, which shocked many observers. This raises questions about the operations and oversight in these illegal settlements.
Meanwhile, authorities have arrested 19 individuals from the illegal settlement under the Osborne Bridge in Ikoyi, with the shanties completely dismantled by the Lagos State Environmental Safety Corps.
