Lagos Beach: Siblings Drown While Celebrating Christmas with Friends
In a heartbreaking incident, 26-year-old Femi Adegboyega and his 23-year-old sister, Ibukun Adegboyega, lost their lives while celebrating Christmas at Ibeshe Beach in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State.
The unfortunate event occurred around 6:00 pm on Christmas Day, as the siblings, residents of FESTAC Town, were swimming with friends before tragedy struck.
Eyewitness Seun, who had been with them before the incident, expressed disbelief, stating, “We were swimming together on the beach. To be honest, I do not understand how it happened because we were together and all of a sudden they both drowned.”
Femi, another eyewitness, recounted the futile efforts made by friends and local divers to rescue the siblings. Despite extensive searches, the bodies of Femi and Ibukun remain undiscovered.
“We swam for a long time but to no avail. I strongly believe their bodies will be found soon,” Femi lamented. The police were promptly informed to prevent any escalation of the situation.
Confirming the tragedy, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that divers had been engaged in the search for the bodies. An ongoing investigation is underway, and the family of the deceased has been notified.
“Divers have been employed to locate the bodies, and the family of the deceased is already informed. The investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin said, expressing hopes for a resolution to this heartbreaking incident.
