Labour Party Suspends Hilda Dokubo Over Alleged Financial Misconduct

The Labour Party (LP) has suspended Hilda Dokubo, the renowned Nigerian actress and Rivers State chairperson of the party, over allegations of financial misconduct.

The suspension was enacted by the party’s ward executive committee in Asari Toru local government area (LGA) following an emergency meeting held on July 15.

A letter addressed to the LP chairman of Asari Toru, signed by ward chairman Ajalamonia Ibama, secretary Lole Amacheer, and treasurer Emmanuel Ibamathe, confirmed Dokubo’s suspension. The letter, also signed by women leader Osaki Dieypiriye and publicity secretary Osaki Dokubo, cited financial misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of party regulations as reasons for the action.

The ward executives asserted that a thorough investigation provided substantial evidence to support the allegations against Dokubo.

Hilda Dokubo, a prominent figure in Nollywood, debuted in the 1992 film ‘Evil Passion’ and has since appeared in numerous films including ‘Gone Forever,’ ‘End of the Wicked,’ and ‘My Goodwill.’ She has won multiple awards, including ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ and ‘Best Actress in a Comedy’ at the 11th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

In 2022, Dokubo declared her candidacy for the Asalga/Akulga federal constituency in the House of Representatives under the Labour Party.
